Slope mode like ERG mode (completed)

Are you riding this as Power or Riding this as an outdoor ride much like Zwift’s Slope Simulation Mode.

If in Slope Mode, I believe the premise is to have a different experience vs ERG whereby instead of the trainer keeping you to X watt, you would have to actively change gears and get yourself aligned to the target power. I think that’s why the Watt Graph is there. Technically, you shouldn’t care about what slope % you’re on. (just hit the target watts) but i get it, some pre-alert on the upcoming slope % would be great to change gears in advance.

I think what you’re looking for is more like a Zwift like ride, eg: Ride Outdoors “Indoors” using an outside ride TCX/FIT file. And you would like to see the actual elevation/slope coming up. (much like the very new Garmin 840’s version of ClimbPro where it shows you the upcoming climbs and the gradient etc)

In your case, to know about upcoming slopes Changes, utilise the interval comments. I think that’s your best bet now.

Don’t use Zwift so cannot comment on that. From experimenting with slope mode the take-away was that the quite sudden change in torque is valuable and adds to training experience, but sometimes comes so unexpected that it is hard to adjust for. To a certain extent the same can happen on the road, but at least you have the hill in front of you and the information was there to make a better decision. Little skeptical about the mock-ups above because in the applications I have in mind slope would change 10-20 times per workout and think it would clutter the view too much. Still feel a simple gradient line would do the trick, but comfortable to be alone in that opinion. Adding comments is a more than acceptable work-around.

Ok, I will keep thinking on the visual “elevation map” I would like this also but it seems it will be hard to be done right. I guess there could be one more view in the zoom levels that could switch to slope view. But I think an option for a popup is the safest to solve the problem you are having, which I agree with. I am using slope mode but I use it in a way that I know what is coming when, and I do short simple repeated interval workouts so it’s easy.

curious how does your actual workout look like?
Is it like a structured intervals (but using slope mode instead of ERG) or is it like riding outdoors. (hence zwift like)

This was what a user explained to me what / how it works for a structured intervals workout using SLOPE/Resistance mode

He suggested he uploaded a ride from the outdoors (in this case our app shows both power that was done as the target as well as the slope of elevation is adjusted to slope what it was outdoors).

Slope mode and Zwift like are the same thing  except in Zwift you have visual stimulation to inspire specific watt outputs. (People passing you or going slow uphill for example) and in our app you have power targets to inspire you just like ERG mode but you do it with gears and rpm based on the slope. Does that answer your question?

Hi, I’m also a SB20 owner and I’d like to ask you if is there a way to default the gear in the SB20 when you start a slope interval.

I know we can create as many bike setups as we want in the SB20 configuration and each bike setup can have any shifting combination. For example, I have 3 bikes setups to recreate my road, gravel, and fatbike real gearing setups so I can simulate the most realistic shifting as my real bikes.

However and every time I open the stages cycling app or any other app that takes control of the bike, the SB20 gets the last bike setup I selected in the stages app (which is perfect in my case). But it always set the gearing in the lowest cog in the virtual cassette and if I’m having a 2x chainring also it set it in the smallest chainring.
I’d like to know whether is a way to default in which cassette cog and chainring when the bike starts in slope. Otherwise, I have to shift virtually the chainring and cassette to get into my favorite gearing.

Let me ask this other question in the same manner, when you have the dream shifting like you have with the virtual gears, when you start your slope workout interval, in which gear does the bike starts up? Can you for example, set that always it starts up in gear 17 every time?

Thanks in advance
