App freeze/crash when in splitscreen/background

Hey there,

i am currenty dealing with app crashes / freezes in training mode (erg mode) while in splitscreen or running the app in the background.

Newest Trainer Day App version, on yearly subscription, Android 14 - July safety update.

Is this a known issue?
Happy to help with debugging.

Thank you.

We don’t officially support split screen although we try to make it work reasonably well.

But crashing in background is not something we have heard of. It would sound like memory issue. We will see if we can check the logs and find your error next week. I will let you know.

Thanks a lot!
As someone who is working/writing mails while training, this would be great.

Tons of people use our app in the background so it really should work without a problem. You might try restarting your phone. But will also investigate.

Ok, ty.
Will try tomorrow right after a phone restart.

Ok, I don’t see any error logs for you specifically (your userid). I see overall only .5% of our user experience a crash on Android in the last 28 days and 100% of them are on Android 14. So it seems you are unlucky.

I see for example 17 hours ago that someone with a Samsung A23 got a crash. that has to do with bluetooth permissions issue and overall most of these crashes seem like bluetooth permissions so this looks like more of an Android 14 issue but I am sure our code could be improved to catch this type of issue.

Let me know if you can repeat it, if you can you might also try re-installing the app.

Hi Alex,
quick reply from during the ride.
Fresh installed app and right after restart:
No freezes yet but extreme delay and wrong power/delayed power adjustment. When back in the app: Erg power is back to normal after very fast counting back uf remaining interval time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this delay and catch up process happens when phones reduce the power allocated to our app. There might be an android setting to improve this but I have not heard of anyone with issues in a long time. We occasionally see small catchups but seems pretty rare.

Due to the technologies we use our app is pretty demanding and there is also no such thing as “exact second timing” so we have to deal with this. In the past people used to see this on faster devices as well but we did a lot of performance improvements and this seems very rare now. In your case I don’t know if it is lots of background processes or what causes this. Low battery for sure can cause this.

Thanks for the information Alex.
Will check if any android power saving settings are active.

Everything else is running silky smooth.
Great App!
