Hi Chriss, we are not planning AppleTV at this time. We are small and testing each new device is very time consuming. I would likely do windows before Apple TV but definitly when we get bigger and can afford more testers and devices we would consider it. People are mirroring their phone or tablet to their AppleTV now.
Reviving this feature request. Several other platforms support Apple TV - it’s a great platform to run apps on a large screen (great for those of us that need to, but don’t want to, wear glasses!).
Dear Alex, I don’t want to bother you, but I would like to revive this post from a few years ago to ask you if something has changed in the meantime. I understand your hesitations in setting up a connection with Apple TV, but in any case a dedicated app on Windows could be interesting. TD is becoming an interesting platform especially for those who intend to train without having to pedal in the middle of a cartoon. Thanks.
Yes we really want to build a PC version or at least a web version that can run completely on PC/mac. We decided AppleTV is too hard for now because the right bluetooth libraries don’t exist.
It’s probably just my need, but I find that following the training from a PC (with a dedicated app or a web version) is more convenient. With other training apps I use the Ant+ dongles which in my opinion cause fewer conflict problems than the BT. In any case, thank you for the effort you are making to try to satisfy users.
No it’s not just you. Anyone that has gotten used to using a PC from Zwift or TR or where ever has this thing dialed. Sadly a web version could not support Ant+ even because we are using a layer on top of native programming developing an Ant+ library would be pretty costly even for a PC version. We do what we can to keep our costs way down and remain ultra affordable yet profitable (soon…) but yes a PC version with Ant+ would be the ultimate. We just need to be a lot bigger first.
The Apple TV is such a better user experience than any Windows PC - there’s just no comparison. At least I can see an argument for using a Windows PC for something like Zwift with actual high res graphics but certainly not for a workout player like TrainerRoad or TrainerDay.
Apple TV just sticks to the wall, even behind the TV if you want. You use your iPhone for a remote. I pair my trainer (power, cadence, control), heart rate monitor, and iPods so I can listen to a podcast while playing workouts on Zwift. Apple TV automatically mixes the 2 audio streams together seamlessly and just works. I can also control fans from my phone using some smart outlets.
It takes like 15 seconds, no exaggeration, from power up to pedaling. Just no comparison to a WIndows PC with all the cords, wires, bugs, crashes, etc. Sure you could build up a dedicated PC in a small form factor for 3 times the cost of an Apple TV and maybe it would boot faster and crash less.
You really need to try an Apple TV for trainer workouts before committing to a Windows PC app. Windows is archaic and a TrainerDay app would be a waste of time IMO.
Hi Brian, we researched it as we like this option also. It is harder than we hoped so we need to get bigger first. One issue is we have a lot more Europeans than US folks and so AppleTV adoption is much lower in Europe so a PC would be a much bigger user base to support. It’s probably 20 to 1 as far as requests go. But again we like AppleTV, I have one, I agree on everything you said it’s just we are smaller and low cost so we have to be very careful how we prioritize stuff.
