Bluetooth disconnects from Fenix 6

I use Garmin Fenix 6 HR broadcasting feature to show my HR in Trainer day (ANT+ HR strap → watch → app). The issue is that during the workout the app loses the connection with the watch every now and then and I need to enable the HR broadcasting again in the watch so that the app reconnect to it again.

This has been happening for a while but I wasn’t sure what was the culprit: the Android phone, TrainerDay or the watch. It seems is the app, I have a new phone and I still have the problem. Also, when I use broadcasting HR with the Wahoo app, it works very well.

Thanks.

One other user had issues with the garmin broadcast feature dropping out and then later he said one of updates seemed to fix it for him. I don’t see me to have this problem. I think part of the problem stems from the fact that our app does not always reconnect quickly and we are working to fix this.

I don’t usually test Android much but I can test this HRM>Watch>TD Android in the next day or so and see if I can replicate it. How long does it usually take before it disconnects? Maybe I have just not tested long enough.

Ok I just testedI have Garmin Pro strap>Forerunner 655 (same as Fenix 6 I think)… For sure forerunner is connect in TD app and not garmin strap directly.

I was just walking around the house doing some stuff for 30 minutes and see no problem.
,

One thing I did notice is if my phone was not against my body (wrist or even clothes), it would stop showing my HR on the watch (see above).

Strangely against a chair nothing but putting against my shorts it would show my HR on the watch… but still it kept working in our app the whole time.

EDIT: Oh this was version 5.1.7 of our app, now trying 5.1.8 (latest)

EDIT2: Ok tried 5.1.8 also no issue.

Thanks for testing. For me it takes less than 10 minutes to happen.

I will give more context about my workflow:

  • I open TrainerDay (TD) and wait until it connects to Kickr Bike sensors
  • I start a “Bike Indoor” activity in my Fenix 6, which also connects to Kickr Bike sensors.
  • I start the HR broadcasting in the watch and wait until TD detects it.
  • I go back to the Bike Indoor screen in the watch and I start the workout.
  • At some point, the HR in TD gets stuck and I need to go back to the broadcasting screen in the watch and stop/start it.

I have followed similar steps with the Wahoo app without issues (but tbh I have only used it a couple of times so maybe I was lucky).

Also, I have been using TD since 2022 and I don’t recall this happening at the beginning, I would say it has been happening since one year ago or so.

Oh I did not try recording on the Garmin at the same time. I can try that. I am on vacation so might take a couple days. It’s no problem for me to test it soon though.
