I’m a runner with an indoor bike at home that I use to:
Active recovery rides after hard running days, clearing lactate.
Besides doing leg strength training, I do 1 higher intensity bike ride for another muscle strength stimulus (often I pick something like a climbing workout).
I also use Zwift, but I find the workouts often lacking specificity. Can the “Today” feature suggest workouts based on my recent running load (from Garmin) and make a more educated suggestion ?
Hi, simple answer is no. TODAY is pretty dumb right now and is more just interesting workouts similar intensity to recent activities. Yeah I am not a fan of Garmin’s suggestions. We plan on improving TODAY to be smarter but it will take a while before it would really give good advice for your situation.
Alex, when you say « recent activities » it’s only those done with the TD app, right? I believe I’ve read that somewhere but I’ve been wondering since I see all information imported from Strava for my Zwift, Kinomap and outdoor (with power pedals) rides under my Activities.
In my case, the only activities I’ve done with the app are ramp tests, so my Today suggestions would be based only on the ramp tests?
Yes, your suggestions would be based on ramp tests (good point what a terrible suggestion…). Soon we will add strava activities to the Today suggestions we really want Today to be useful for users that don’t use our app or use it rarely so you made it really clear why I need to prioritize this soon…
Personally, I use Garmin Connect to track all my activities (cycling, running, weight training, hockey, etc.). I don’t use Strava because I don’t find the leaderboards and publishing on social networks motivating.
Will TrainerDay be able to use the activities recorded in Garmin Connect for Coach Jack and for the improved “Today Suggestions” version you are thinking of developing? Or will I have to reluctantly sign up for Strava to take advantage of these features?
There recently was a post here that TrainerDay will likely be able to get training history from Intervals in the near future. That will give you all the flexibility you can dream of because Intervals connects to Garmin, Strava, Coros, Polar, Suunto,… and more.
Oh yes could do that. The only problem I see is many of our users are trying to limit then number of technologies they are using. So they prefer only Garmin and TD for example. Only about 20% of our paid users are connected to Intervals. Still a good choice to maximize options. We are working towards a new way to do outdoor training (totally different than anything available today). And initial feedback from people I have talked to is they really like it. So in this case we want TODAY to be very useful to outdoors so intervals, strava, Garmin and our app seem like the most logcial choices to read from.
For what it’s worth, I don’t mind using many technologies/apps but I try to limit the connections between them and use Strava as my hub. My experiences have been that issues inevitably happen when two apps are sending the same information to another app.
So although I use Intervals and Garmin, they’re not connected to TD as I have no need. Strava sends my activities to TD and I send my TD workouts to Zwift via TrainingPeaks. I don’t do structured workouts when outdoor and I don’t use Intervals and Garmin calendars to plan workouts.
All that to say I’m a paying user who has not connected Intervals (hence not in the 20%) but I would immediately connect if it allows for better workout recommendations.
