First event - Trek 100

I more/less ride the way I want to in small groups and had never done an official event or race before. There aren’t a lot of non-race events in my area and I’m not really interested in racing.

I live not that far from Trek HQ. The bike shop I do the most business with was pushing the Trek 100 ride for their 50th anniversary as something we would have a lot of fun doing and we decided to try it.

This not a race. They had 4 different groups that would mostly do a 33 mile loop – 100 miles, 66 miles, 33 miles, and a shorter 20 mile version. We chose the 33 mile option.

Overall we had a lot of fun. It was interesting seeing so many bikes and so many people. The start was more of like a party pace so we passed quite a few groups in the beginning to go a comfortable pace for us. When the 100 mile groups passed on their 2nd loop it was like being passed by a train, they were flying. The overall distance and speed were both our typical.

I am just getting over a bad sinus head cold, I was really sick last week but it relented by Friday and was mostly unaffected on the Saturday event day.

Looks like a great event

Speaking of 100 mile riders passing like a train, there was a 100 mile time trial here in the UK today.

A new record was set: 3h10m48s which is a shade under 31.5mph

Second place was taken by a 54 year old chap: 3h19m40s

LOL - goes to show, ride your own ride.

Super cool. It’s interesting. For me race and fun ride are exactly the same thing. I could care less about how competitive I am, just do the best I can. Obviously many people treat races differently. Anyway, sounds like you are having a great year.
