FTP not calculating

I did the Whoosh Ramp Test the other day. After the trainerday app stating that it would automatically calculate FTP, the file was automatically uploaded to tracking platforms, but FTP wasn’t calculated in the trainerday app. Instead of me going into the data and trying to estimate, is there a way that it will calculate based on the test?

I would guess you never failed and stopped pedalling? The problem is if you start off at the default 100w and your FTP is much higher than what you have entered some ramp tests won’t cause failure. We allow flexibility of using ramp tests other than the one we created but it has a the problem that your FTP should be set relativey accurate before taking the test. If my guess is wrong let me know.

I guess I didn’t quite get to the failure portion where I stopped pedaling, as the FTP test, at the end of the 20 minutes, went into a prescribed cool down ride which I completed. The app also provided a notice that it was calculating new FTP (or something like that, can’t remember the exact message) and then it just didn’t happen.

Yes, this is kind of a more rare case that someone does not use our ramp test and does not first know or set their FTP. So our app says it will calculate but since someone else designed this workout and in this rare case it can’t. If it felt close to failure, I would set it to 150w and do it again. Our FTP test has a higher range so it is safer, it’s in the free workouts section but as long as you are semi close at the starting point the mywhoosh one would work fine as well.

I’m a new user. I just did the TD Ramp Test and it didn’t automatically calculate my FTP. I can multiply my peak minute by 0.75 easily enough, but I’m wondering what happened. My last minute was 210, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do 220, so I just stopped pedaling as soon as the target went up to 210. Am I supposed to try to keep pedaling?

No, you likely did everything right although after stopping pedalling it should go to a warmup state, it seems some devices report cadence strangely and that can affect how our automatic detection works. We need to improve this. What trainer are you using?

I stopped pedaling and then I clicked on the button to stop the workout.

I’m using a Wahoo KICKR Core.

Thanks.

Oh we will have to try this (and improve it). Yes maybe it did not have time to calculate… yes you should stop pedalling and then keep pedalling which will be lower intensity.
