I’ve recently started using the TrainerDay app and I’d like to use the HR Plus program so that my ergometer adjusts resistance based on my heart rate.
I tried it in a free ride session and set my target to 120 bpm, but I’m not sure if the resistance is actually being adjusted according to my heart rate. It seems more like it’s following a predefined plan instead.
Am I missing something, or is this how it’s supposed to work?
I saw that it says on the cardiostrong website that it is compatible with zwift, but “Resistance is manually controlled via the bike’s console or knob, not by the Zwift app, so you will need to manually adjust the resistance for uphills and downhills.”
I don’t use Zwift, but with Kinomap the resistance is actually adjusted automatically on my home trainer. So at least in my case, it’s not purely manual.
So logically, if Kinomap can control the resistance through the app, then TrainerDay connected to a heart rate monitor should also be able to adjust the resistance automatically. At least that would make sense to me, but maybe I’m missing something.
If you try a TD ERG workout, does TD change the resistance of the trainer in line with the progression of the workout?
One other thing, you mention in your first post that you set the HR target to 120 bpm
In your next post, the screenshot shows a workout with the HR target set at 110 bpm - just to check: that isn’t the workout to which you were referring in the first post?
Yes so in zwift it uses slope mode so your bike probably supports slope adjustments. This is ERG adjustments although in reality we could do automatic slope/resistance adjustment to set your heart rate it’s not something we have now. There are not very many bikes that come to us that support slopes or resistance but not ERG. I did just build this functionality for Echelon bikes (meaning fake ERG in our desktop app) but not HR+ yet. It is something I am willing to consider in the future. The problem is it requires a person very motivated to help us.
