Hr scale makes no sense

Hi all. My hr strap was showing 112 bpm on average, but the red scale to the left had my line at more like 170. What gives? Thx

Like I can see I can change the hr threshold, but I don’t understand what this is. I just want the red scale on the rh side to match what my strap is putting out…

Ok I think I got this sorted. Changed threshold to 100 and now it matches hrm bpm. Still don’t understand the purpose of being able to change the scale…

This threshold is nothing more than the lactate threshold.
Read this blog, which will certainly explain to you what it is for and why it is called. Joe Friel’s Blog: A Quick Guide to Setting Zones (trainingbible.com)

We have an power to HR conversion for dumb trainers so it makes it so you can train with heart rate but it causes too much confusion so we are removing it in the next release and having a standardized scale.

Ah ok, now that I understand what the scale is meant for it makes perfect sense. I don’t think it needs to be removed from the next release, just rename it to ā€œlactate clearance HR thresholdā€ instead of HR threshold. Or maybe add an explantion to the ā€œIā€ that this scale can be used in this way. Anyone who knows what that is will know what to set the number to. I guess the scale could be used for other things as well, maybe just as a target. Maybe an option for 0 turns the scale off.

Matt

Yes, it just confuses too many people in the beginning so we are going to remove it. Most people don’t come and ask, they just think it is goofy or a bug or something…

Are we talking about the threshold HR yellow line displayed on the chart during ERG workouts? I love the line, it clearly shows if I’m under or over threshold at certain blocks, allowing for real-time workout analysis to increase or lower the difficulty accordingly. Please don’t remove it entirely. Unless something else is discussed here, then disregard my comment

No we are talking about the red HR scale on the right hand side, I want to standardize it from 50-220, rather than having adjustable.

I am also in favor of not eliminating this functionality. It is a good idea: one line, two thresholds.

Oh no… this is not good. Meaning he already removed it. I loved the idea, I just hated all the confused people. We want to make our app less confusing which will help us grow and benefit everyone (I assume). But if we get a bunch of people that really miss this we can add it back as a setting. Yeah friends are mocking me ā€˜when am I going to max out the HR scale’ which goes up to 342 bpm in my case, which is indeed ridiculous at the first glance, but really useful during workouts when you understand the idea behind one line for HR and power threshold  Although I understand people don’t really like to read tooltips or popout windows, and UI should be intuitive, but perhaps it’s better to try to explain the functionality rather than remove it entirely?

Yeah, I never seem to be good at explaining stuff well enough. Sounds like a bunch of people like this so it might disappear for a short time while I think about the best solution. A setting probably makes the most sense. HR Standard vs HR Threshold Scale.

Setting sounds good, you can default to the standard scale to avoid confusion among newbies and leave the scaled threshold as an option for those who want it

Yes ok, I will just have him add it now before he removes the current scaling. So false alarm for you guys  Thanks for the discussion and helping here.
