1. When I select a workout but do not press start, the app. seems to be locked in ERG mode at the power level of the first segment. Can this be set as Slope?
2. Offset. I’ve found I need to set this at 2% to get a reasonable resistance from the trainer (slope mode), if I change this it alters the resistance massively going from almost nothing to ‘riding through porridge’ feeling. Is this correct?
3. Power smoothing. Worked well with my last set up, Tacx Bushido in dumb mode controlled by a Stages single arm PM crank. Now it is more difficult to maintain a steady pace. Maybe due to the extra mass of the JB flywheel?
4. ERG to Slope mode issue. Have noticed that when dropping from a higher power segment to a low power Slope segment the resistance can take nearly 2 minutes to come back up.
Can you change our slope increment to be like 0.1 or 0.5? Then pressing up or down will have much less effect. Do the workouts that you’re starting have slope as the first target? Maybe you’re right. Before you start pedaling, maybe we need to look at that first segment and send a slope target before the workout starts. We usually send 40% of FTP, which should start fairly moderate and then quickly switch to the slope.
I have a JB Victory and it performed well over the past year. I had issues with U.S. customer support but the trainer itself worked fine, until it didn’t. My issues were documented in another post on here. If after trouble shooting yourself and no resolution, you could contact customer service through the app. It will likely route your issue to a guy named Murray. Murray is awesome and very responsive. I believe he is located in Australia.
Now let’s try to get it working. I never had to mess with offset. I would open the JBV app every few weeks and do a spin down calibration. So I’d start there. Make sure you close other apps first. After you complete the spin down calibration, close the JBV app. Make sure other apps are closed too.
Then open the Trainer Day app (make sure other apps that might try to control the trainer are closed) and try your workout. The number one issue I found before figuring things out was other apps were open and trying to control the trainer. Having 2 or more apps open that have access to controlling the trainer makes for a very confusing experience.
The other thing Murray mentioned to me was if I wasn’t using WiFi for Zwift, TPV etc, just disconnect it from WIFI. He said Trainer Day and the JBV don’t play well together over WIFI.

Yep. Changed the ‘Slope Increase %’ value to 0.1 in the App. settings. Lets see how it goes.
‘Resistance Inc %’ is at 2%, worth changing?
Do the workouts that you’re starting have slope as the first target?
Yes. Once I learned of this feature I converted all my workouts to Slope or a combination of Slope/Erg…a great idea. For Z2 workouts they are all Slope, start to finish. For the interval workouts I’ll have an easy Slope start then the intervals in Erg with any rest periods in Slope too.

Hmmmm, that would be quite low even for me, but it seems that before I actually start the workout the mode is set as ERG. I’ll try the same workout and confirm what’s happening.
To explain how it works, there is no such thing as a mode… We term it that way but really it’s just about sending a target. We send a slope or we send a erg wattage. But before the workout starts we don’t send any target, so we are not sending/setting any “mode.” So when starting JB it might automatically set it’s own ERG target before receiving a target. Our app starts with pedaling, if you pressed start first before pedaling it might give you this slope start you are hoping for.
this is how I normally ride a Workout…search for the workout I want from my Favs, start pedalling and press ‘Ride’. This gives me the chance to check all connections and correct if needed.
I can now see what the first power level will be and can change my gear/cadence to reach that shown.
rode a few more Workouts and these are the results…
before I hit the start button the App. seems to be in ERG as any pedalling results in a power that matches my first interval (as set in Slope). Offset is at 2%, but dropping this to 1.9% results in nearly no trainer resistance…but if I then return it to 2% the trainer is now in Slope mode. A work around I can cope with.
Erratic power readings even with Power smoothing enabled. This is not as good as I had with the Bushido/Stages combo but I’m not confident this isn’t a trainer issue really.
Trainer resistance dropping to zero when going from a higher poer interval to a lower. The time that the trainer is at zero resistance appears to be directly rel;ated to the last interval ridden. Low power intervals, 20 seconds to return to a normal resistance levet or nearly 2 minutes for a higher power interval. I believe this is a trainer issue.
power reading for the next interval not as set in the Workout, this has happened in 2 different Workouts. I’ll have to ride some different ones and see if this is the same throughout. I’m thinking App issue.
Thanks.
Carl.
Looks like I’ll have to open a ticket with JB, great! 2nd trainer with a problem!
