Mtb trail riding

where to start with trainer Jack if you are not planning for a particular event or date in time?
I just want to stop being dropped on climbs, improve my endurance distance speed, ride singletrack whilst not feeling like rubbish on the climbs… its November now I am doing most riding on an indoor trainer as the south downs in the uk is like ice right now with so much rain. Get Me fit for Spring , thanks guys
