I was reviewing my 16-week (correction 34 week plan) training plan when I noticed that during my peak week, CJ is getting me up to 20 hours a week. For context, I started my plan at 5 hours, and the max hours during the base were 7 hours.
Is the ramp-up in hours normal? Also, since I have a full-time job and a kid, should I limit the number of hours I work there to the maximum I can do a week?
I am limiting the hours should I change my block types?
I am not sure if I miss something in the questionnaire to limit the max number of hours a week. I went back to check but I don’t see anything.
For context,
Yes reduce the max weekly hours Possibly in each block independently. We just introduced changes we should probably reduce the default as most people don’t want to go from 5 to 20. Generally this should produce the best results on the bike but spend more time with the family. I would suggest up to 12 or 15 but you know your life.
Strange, I just tried the same thing and can’t reproduce anything like you are saying. 16 weeks only creates 2 blocks for me, build and peak. Second is even if I do 6 months it does 5-7, 7-12, 12-15 is what is says but max week is actually 13.x hours. I tried base PSS, Strong Rider also… can you possible create a video or screenshots? Maybe start a new plan by clicking on initial questions at the top…
Yes 34 weeks is a very long plan. I realize now in a case like this we should suggest a lot longer base period. Personally I would actually start over and wait to start this plan until December. It’s a good plan but 34 weeks just has a little more risk of burn out. This all depends on a lot of personal factors. Generally our plans our fairly safe from burnout compared to our competitors but still if it was me I would do one of two things right now.
A long base starting now
a) I love HR+ training but that’s me
b) A Coach Jack base period
Just have fun now and start a base in 6-8 weeks.
I would do #2 if especially if you are riding outdoors right now.
. I don’t really have an event. I just started riding about 4 months ago. I just want to get myself in shape to do long rides outdoors and be able to keep up with local grouse and then look for events.
I was just trying to do a 6 month plans and account for some vacations so it ended up being 34 weeks. What length would you recommend out what kind of plan?
Good point. I should have asked that. If you have no event you are planning for, then that is totally fine with zero risk meaning if you start getting burned out near the end you can always just end it early.
The only thing I would align it to is, If you have northern winters and plan to do most indoors during winter then I would try to keep the indoor hours less and have them build up more as you can spend time outside. So maybe like 5-8 indoors, and then 8-15 as you can do 1 or 2 rides outdoors (or what ever limit seems good to you).
The most typical would be
Fun outdoors now and/or just playing around indoor as you please
Base as long as you feel like, could start now or do at least 8-12 weeks of base that ends around mid-january
Jan - April/May is build and peak period for a spring time maximum performance
I always recommend as long as base period as you can without going crazy as that protects you from illness and injury and makes you feel super fresh before build>peak periods. So if you like or don’t mind low intensity you can start now. I would just use our HR+ feature and do about 65% of max heart rate (totally easy feeling). I can help you understand this base period of low intensity more if you are interested.
