ok i created the feature request for you. I always have wanted to add HR+ to coach jack. It’s more that I want to see if our AI builder gains popularity, once it does for sure I would add HR+ to it, its much easier to add to ai plans than coach jack but I also want to bring more of coach jack into ai plans as well.
Nothing against AI, but I’m not sure why people would necessarily want to bypass Coach Jack. There are so many workout types out that Coach Jack already supports.
Andrea >> AI
The exception, at least in my opinion, is where people want more intensity than Coach Jack will allow.
As you know there are a lot of dynamics that go into the right plan, much of that based on beliefs. When people think correctly then CJ is great… but there is a lot to be said regarding finding a plan that matches your current beliefs and desires perfectly. Some people thrive on deep pain on day 1, and some people don’t want to wait many weeks to get to that level of suffering.
Part of the behind the scenes prompt we send to open ai is some of the principals CJ has.
Overall if we keep fine tuning this ai builder it can fully be Coach Jack as well as be any other coach/plan theory someone wants.
We will try to add pre created prompts someone can select from and if they chose one that includes the works Coach Jack then it will go deeper in the CJ direction.
I don’t need to tell you this, but there is a lot you can do with Coach Jack. Picking a default plan at level 1 is not necessary unless someone wants to do it.
I was looking at a couple polarized Coach Jack options. I’ve messed around with the wizard quite a bit and know it well. I know enough about training at this point that I can find what is about right for me.
I came up with two 8-week block options:
Base++ with 30/30 style HIIT workouts. This starts intensity 10 and goes to 15. Starting IF 0.73 ending IF 0.84. Perfect.
Custom version with VO2 Max Favorites and all other rides zone 2. This starts intensity 6 and goes to 11 with 4x3 at 108% and ends 6x3 at 114%. Starting IF 0.75 ending IF 0.82. Perfect.
Why look at these?
Base++ earlier than 10 is 20/40 style workouts. If I do those the work/recovery is a little too easy. I’ll get along better with 30/30s.
VO2 Max Favorites has 3 more intervals than the other options. The regular VO2 Max has a lot of 2 minute intervals which are kind of short.
These are just examples to show if you know what you want it to do generally you can get there. Andrea is a lot smarter with how to do the progressions than AI is.
Yes, but this is your personal settings, this is my point, you have an idea of what you want or like, everyone is like this, and that may fall within the CJ range or may not. Most people believe they need harder than they do. I do agree that CJ should better understand what the user prefers and what makes sense. In the case of hiit and vo2max that requires w’ analysis like xert does. But xert puts too much focus on that rather than aerobic.
I think the AI will be more likely to be more useful to more people when it
takes into consideration the athletes (recent) training history
adapts the plan based on how well the proposed workouts are executed and what the athlete feedback is during the plan
gives a confidence rating on the likelihood of this plan (or indeed any plan) delivering the results the athlete wants (so if I ask for a plan to get me to a sub 50" 40k TT before the end of August 2026, it tells me that it is a nice dream, but very likely to be unachievable).
There are other platforms that are having a go at this already, but the user interface and the journey aren’t (imo) well explained and presented.
A GCN trio had a go at it as a “team TT” on road bikes on the UK’s official fastest 40km course (the start is a significant downhill that doesn’t have to be climbed to get to the finish).
Keep in mind that until 7 Sep 2025, when the record was set at 47’39" , the individual road bike record had stood at 49’24" since 5 Aug 1978 (yes, 47 years!)
