My setup is Zwift Hub Trainer and Gen 1 Stages Power Meter. My Stages PM consistently reads higher than the Trainer - confirmed over the winter with Zwift / Trainerroad. Since I had set my FTP using the Power Meter, I wanted to use them to control the trainer.
TrainerDay appears to report power from the power meter, but hold effort based on the trainer reading, e.g. the reported power is ~15W higher than the target power in ERG mode. Power does change to match the workout.
It sees your power meter as a smart trainer not a power meter. We fixed this but for some reason it does not work for your power meter. Let me talk to my developer next week what to do. Thanks for the compliment
It’s not your fault, we just have a problem with recognizing some devices this is really just a bug. We should be able to recognize them clearly, but to your point there are a million devices and the standards regarding this stuff just are not standards.
Hi Alex, I seem to be having the same issue as doubledadster with powermatch. Sometimes my 4iiii left crank arm powermeter connects as a smart trainer, and sometimes as a power meter. When it connects as a smarttrainer, powermatch doesn’t work and apparently trainerroad is using the power measurements from my Kickr. It’s very inconsistent - one day trainerroad sees the 4iii as a powermeter, the next day as a smart trainer … any advice?
Hi Steve, sadly we don’t have a quick fix. It’s one of our highest priorities to re-design how our connections work, more like Zwift, so you can decide what is a power meter and what is a trainer but other issues keep coming up… It should be fixed in the next 2-4 weeks.
Thanks Alex, for at least confirming I’m not losing my mind (same equipment every ride, but sometimes the connection is different!). Thankfully my power meter and my smart trainer only seem to read a few watts different, so it’s not a big deal. Keep up the great work. - SF
