Hey Alex, wow I am so impressed with the platform. Great work.
I have a particular use case, so I apologize if this is not in line with the vision for the platform.
I am wondering if I can use TrainerDay with a recumbent elliptical that has FTMS protocol, and build workouts that are intervals-based, that will automatically control the resistance level on the exercise equipment. I think this is a big ask, but I thought maybe it will work already.
I am setting my Mum up for doing some exercise, and want to be able to program some workouts for her that are very controlled.
Ideally, along with resistance control, there would be a wattage target for her to hit in each interval/segment that I create. This way I know she is pushing just the right amount.
Hi Luke, thanks for the compliment. You can test our free version now. If your bike uses standard FTMS everything should just work. Some times different bikes some how use different versions of the standard Kind of funny it’s a non-standardized standard but most cases it does just work.
Reporting back here that I tried this the CRS800S by Spirit fitness and managed to get data flowing and also resistance control by using Slope intervals and using the Slope parameter. Took a lot of fiddling around but got there in the end. I set it to cycling mode.
Also very notable that kinomap, kinni, and rouvy all failed to some degree or another. None could manage to adjust resistance. So Bravo to you!!!
Wondering if there are any plans to add a feature in future where someone would be aiming to keep their target wattage within a high/low boundary, and for these boundary lines to be shown on the real time graph output in the app? I would really like to work on target watts by seeing my target visually rather than looking at only the numbers.
Also wondering if there’s a way to get more of a full screen view of the chart, with the metrics just to the sides of the chart.
Cool, glad it worked. We have a broadcast screen that shows more fields (it will send your data in real time to a browser on a second screen). We have training zones now Zone 1, Zone 2. you can turn this on in settings and then you will get a visual color that says if you are on tartget or not. That is not user definable, you can’t set the high and low points. Just standard Coggan Zones, you can turn that on in settings.
Finally this is an interesting request but no one has asked for it before, meaning you want ERG mode working for resistance. If you have a resistance dial there are some physical devices that will turn the dial automatically to control your resistance. While I like your idea, I don’t think it is anything we would do as it’s too small of use case. I can’t see where anyone would want this. Most devices that you can set resistance also support ERG.
Definitely familiar!! Very scenic part of the world
Appreciate you getting back to me about the zones, etc.
Is there a way in the broadcast view to have the lines in the chart be a lot thicker? Viewing the live chart on my tv almost wipes out the lines, and also the numbers.
Going to note here for anyone that might be google searching that the Spirit Fitness CRS800S is a good option if you’re looking for something that’ll work for an older person (like my mother), but something that you can use TrainerDay to create custom programming for, with auto control of resistance changes.
Also thought I’d share a visual of what I was trying to describe earlier, about boundary zones of watt targets. I hear you that no one has requested this.
Just want to see if maybe I could be achieving a similar thing a different way, and just not familiar enough with the platform!
Thanks
Sure, we can do this, I will add it to my list, the only problem is the guys are super busy right now so I need to fit it in, in a gap. It’s should be simple. It’s funny I see the step/desert side very scenic as well but for others they see a barren desert
That’s great to hear Alex. It’ll be really engaging to ensure the wattage stays within the boundaries. Totally understand how the development of features stacks up.
Not sure if you saw my question about the thickness of the lines on the web page view? They’re thin and I have tried every css modification trick I can think of in Chrome, without any success.
I think the beauty of landscapes is in the eye of the beholder! I love the wide open spaces and contours you get to see - totally different to a coastal area. I’m a hobby photographer so the variety is what I love, especially in the late afternoon light.
Oh sorry I was saying thicker lines are easy. Boundaries are not so easy. This is the first request for boundaries. To some degree boundaries would be the same as custom zones and better out of zone warnings. I am sure others would like custom zones but that is a bigger long term goal. Boundaries by themself would add more confusion to the editor and the app but custom zones should do the same. This is really not coming soon, sorry.
I have been a hobby photographer many times in my life as well. When I lived in Eburg it was in the film days and I had a black and white dark room for a while.
Got it! Thanks for clarifying.
Understood now. Will be great to have the thicker lines. I’d offer to do the code change but I doubt you’d want another cook in the kitchen
Appreciate the clarity on the boundary zones.
I was lucky to do some film dark room developing in the 90s at school. Was a great process. Definitely gave me an appreciation for what’s now consider normal in editing software/apps. A lot of the filtering I had to do with grad filters, ND, and polarizing filters over the lens!
I am pretty sure it would take much longer to help you get it running locally then it would to make the change But I am always on the lookout for interesting win/win situations. I dream of the day we can afford an endurance sports data enthusiast programmer…
I don’t really have a strong artistic gene… My brother totally does. I can spend lots of time trying to over come that limitation with technology though I am sure people can do amazing stuff with out strong genetic pre-disposition (look at AI…). I do feel I get lucky some times or like some photos I do. But I am just a tinkerer that goes in and out of that passion over 30+ years. Same with being a musician… but it’s been 15+ years since that “bug.”
