When I search for a training plan with “Search plans” I get a list of plans created by people I don’t know, and they may be plans created by someone who doesn’t have the right technical training skills.
It would be nice to find a set of training plans (2, 4, 6, 8, 12, … weeks) of different kinds, different levels, different times of the season and for different situations, created by TD, without having to use CJ.
Am I asking too much or something stupid?
It’s a very interesting question, that I was wondering myself Just curious why not just use Coach Jack? I wonder if a lot of people think like this. No one said this before, although a few people have said they would like a TD official workout library. Just trying to understand.
I will say we want to continue to simplify and improve the experience which will include a kind of merge “my plans” and coach jack plans into one, it’s possible this could be part of that vision.
“TD Official Workout/Plan Library”
Those are the magic words!
I am just trying to understand your thinking as to why is this better than Coach Jack? Meaning your thinking helps me understand the mindset better and do a better job as the more I think about this, the more I think you are right. Since almost every other platform has their workouts and plans. Zwift, TR…
It’s just a matter of laziness and I don’t think it can be better than CJ. It’s just a second different option.
Once in a while I might not feel like setting up CJ and I’d rather find a ready-made plan for a hard month, a two weeks of recovery or a week of intensive sprinting. Things like that.
Because, as I wrote yesterday, how do I know who is behind the many available plans? Maybe it’s a great coach or a super pro or maybe it’s just someone like me.
If I find plans made by TD instead, I tend to trust them more
Oh perfect, thanks for the explination. Those are user contributed plans. I know a few coaches created some but I believe most are from cyclists that just copied an idea from some place else but I also don’t know who is behind 95% of them.
I think the problem with „official“ plans would be, that you create a plan with 7 hours / week, but user 1 wants to ride only 6 hours, user 2 has time for 10 hours and so on.
Just as an idea:
So maybe you link CJ with the plan search.
So I search for 8 hours/week, base type plan, 4 days a week, and the first x results I get, are CJ created plans.
You are right on!!! I was thinking the same thought… Meaning it’s still a bit dynamic but you just switch the focus to the purpose of the plan (block) and you only specify hours per week and days per week. We could pre-generate lots of combinations using CJ…
But also taking that one step farther which is more specialty plans, meaning start with the marketing side of the plan. A nice description, specific need focus, some graphics or image to feel special about the plan like it is something special. A bit of differentiation to really focus on a specific need. TR makes workouts feel special by giving them a good name…
Many people want an “FTP Builder.” So you search for FTP builder and you can get our plan.
In most cases in a traditional periodization this should come after base and build but if someone wants to focus on that now they can. Then also these specialty plans could be added as the peak part of coach jack as well.
If you have more ideas please share. I fully agree with your thinking here. I think we also want to push the boundaries a bit more than we are normally comfortable recommending and give people stuff that’s harder by default. A bit more like a Zwift or TR plan.
So maybe you start with FTP builder in search and it says “hey want to add some fries to that burger…” meaning how about "Would you like to add base/build before that specialty plan?
