And, how long are your “intervals”? How many reps does it take you to climb uphill?
What interests me is whether you start with the same cog each year. I would expect that if you train for the rest of the year, too, you can start with a smaller cog each year until you’re at the end of your maximum growth.
I like the fact that you have a dedicated bike for this.
I have no cadence data. It represents a small portion of the weekly load. Single speed can be evil with low cadence up matched by near spin out on downhills and flats. Note that I am not a sprinter, but lean more towards a TT profile although I live in a Crit crazy area so have to be able to hold my own in those. I don’t ride a repeated hill, but instead do a approx 17k loop. The hills vary from incredibly steep 15-60 second efforts to longer 5-15 minute sustained efforts of lower pitch. Total climbing comes in at about 500M. It actually started as a way to do a quick weekly group ride with others before work while getting in a much harder workout.
Thanks for your reply. I love the work-with-what-you’ve-got-approach. I would try to maintain these rides during the season to see if you could upgrade a cog next season.
If you need any help to shape your schedule around that, let me know.
