My last workout i started in erg mode and mid ride changed to slope mode. The watts in the app didnt change and remained at the erg mode target despite feeling like my watts were variable, changing gears etc. Same with garmin, static watts.
I don’t know what you mean by same with garmin. Garmin won’t switch modes automatically but our app does. What trainer do you have? Sounds like some type of bug, but what you could try after switching to slope is pressing the up/down buttons at the bottom to change the slope %. It might be a timing issue related to your trainer of how quickly we tell your trainer to switch to a slope so pressing up/down can “unstick it.”
I mean the garmin showed the exact same number as the app in terms of watts, ie the static erg mode value. I did try adjust up and down the % slope and behaviour remained the same.
Try the new version of our app that came out today. I just tested that one and works perfect with my V5 but we had a change in that one that might solve your issue.
As you see below at 1 minute I manually switched to slope mode and also increased my cadence just to show power would be higher with higher cadence which means I am in slope mode.
Yes that is the behaviour i was expecting. I shifted into the big ring and watts remained constant (maybe increased 1 watt similar to how it behaves in erg when pushing more power). Ill get a screenshot next ride.
I dual record the trainerday workout on my garmin edge to gather data, vo2max etc. The garmin is connected to my wahoo.
Slope mode still behaving like erg so i switched off my garmin, same behaviour. I then switched back on my garmin and slope mode worked so garmin connection to wahoo appears to be interfering with app.
I dual record as standard. Does the app support this?
Yes Garmin is known to interfere. Make sure you connect your garmin as a power meter not as a smart trainer. Many people that dual record like this make sure the garmin connects first and then trainerday or visa versa. I am not an expert in this but I do know it is possible to make it work but for sure it is the issue.
Maybe you have the older wahoo firmware although I think in most or all cases that would mean you have older than v4 model. If this is the case then it would be the same case as one other user that has slope mode issues with the old protocol. You could really help me if you would help me troubleshoot this issue. We keep resistance mode as a setting because it is a less supported protocol and almost no one uses it, so not the best idea to add more confusion/options for the minority. Programmable slope mode can be fun too.
If you would be willing to spend 30 seconds connecting, pedalling pressing slope up down on this it could help us both. Make sure your trainer is not connected to anything else.
I got your email. You have a wahoo V5 and I have a V5. Below you can see with my V5.
Same gear/cadence and 9% gradient is very different than 3%. I looked above and don’t remember if you said you completely uninstalled our app and reinstalled.
Yes!!! You can think of slope and resistance as the same thing. Meaning they are both applying a specific resistance to how hard you pedal. One is specified in gradient of slope and the other in % of maximum resistance of your trainer. Both cases are confusing. As we don’t really know how resistance translates to watts. It’s a long discussion. I would use slope mode as it is more popular and if you decide you want to, you can create workouts that have different slopes or resistance meaning you don’t have to shift as much. But if you are just going to use the buttons at the bottom and gears then it does not really matter.
