[SOLVED] - Kick Snap not being controlled

I am using a Wahoo Kickr Snap. I did a workout in Erg mode mostly and power was fluctuating a lot. When I went below the stated power in the workout there was no resistance like I would normally expect in Erg mode. I am using an ipad on IOS and Wahoo trainer.

Link to my workout is: Trainer Day - Workout: 1 hour ( Z2 - cadence change )

Thanks for looking at this

Another forum member had problems with a kickr snap quite recently

So setting the initial value I believe I fully understand the problem (and will fix that). The rest seems ok (not perfect) but tell me if there is something else or if it used to be a lot better in some specific spot. With wheel on trainers it’s never as clean as direct drive so I am never sure how good it was or should be.

My fix for this first issue should improve any problems you have for setting targets.

Not sure I understand your message but in the past when in Erg mode it is almost perfect in keeping resistance to workout power. When I dip under workout power I feel a lot of resistance on the trainer. Something is clearly wrong w TD. Look at this workout as power is perfect in ERG mode.

Something is not right. When using all apps my power in ERG mode stays very close to workout specified power.

This is interesting. So make sure you have your power meter completely unpaired from our app and only run the trainer. This looks like an offset between power meter and your crank power meter, but it is reporting the data from your trainer (because wahoo makes their data look perfect like that). It does look like some kind of bug related to multiple devices.

Oh now I understand, this is an old workout where you pressed the down button to reduce intensity… but you are showing it is perfectly smooth power.

This very smooth power is because of wahoo being in ERG mode. If you don’t see this smooth power like this now it’s because your device is not going into ERG mode or you changed a setting in the wahoo app to turn off power smoothing.

I didn’t change any setting in Wahoo app and power smoothing is on. I will try everything one more time just to make sure.

Oh now I know why it changed… We are no longer connecting to bluetooth before you get to the quick start screen (other people were having app crashes due to connecting too early) so we are sending multiple commands at the same time (or very quickly in succession).

  1. Connect to bluetooth
  2. Connect to device
  3. Setup device notifications (to receive data)
  4. Start ERG mode
  5. Control your trainer command
  6. Set initial power target

Old wahoo devices and possibly some newer ones (snap?) reject the other updates Start the workout (only 1 command every 2-3 seconds).

To prove my theory start the workout, wait 5 seconds press slope and ERG again. Make sure only your trainer is connected not your power meter.

We will get busy fixing this. I am very sure this is the problem.

Great. I don’t have a power meter so this won’t be an issue. Let me know when fixed and I will try again. I did just try and TD was doing the same thing.

First I used the Wahoo trainer app and trainer was acting as I would expect. When i was below target power I felt a lot of resistance when in ERG mode. So I concluded that TD was the issue

Yes like I said if you want to just press slope and then erg after your workout starts it should resolve the issue for now but we will put more safeguards in place.

Will try when I have some time

I believe this is fixed now and will be updated in our next version. We don’t own a snap so can’t be sure for sure, but pretty sure

Our next version includes a huge update required by google but unlike previous huge updates we believe this is less risky.

It looks like such a harmless warning… it’s like 100 hours of work

Let us know when next version is released by Apple so I can try it

Will do. I love closing these items and deleting them when they really go away  (which really means solving peoples issues)

Any idea when this will be fixed and available for download for IOS? If you want a Snap Kickr you can probably buy one for $100 or so or someone may give you one. If you were near me I would give you mine.

I live in Poland and a refurbished one is 400$ But I believe we made big progress on understanding the limitations of this type of wahoo now so hopefully it is resolved and we won’t run into this. This release is huge changes so we are being extra careful. I just submitted what I believe is the final version to apple/google before we release it. Unless we find some other last minute bugs. So should be today/tomorrow.

OK thanks. You can buy new ones here for $250

I am American so well aware of the craziness of European pricing. Wahoo gave me a free kickr and kickr bike  but now they are more careful with their money.

Any updates on when next IOS version will be released? Thanks!!
