[SOLVED] - Turbo power control vs pedal

Ignore post  Power Smoothing and Match Power were switched off on the current device I’m using! The other device had these settings switched on, just tested it and its lovely consistent data and within desired range!

Hi Alex, firstly I am loving the app!, I don’t bother with Zwift/MyWoosh/Rouvy anymore, I love the simplistic UI in TD!

Turbo - Directo Elite V3
Pedals - Assioma Favero Dual

I need some advice,

Power smoothing, for instance this morning I wanted 200 watts for 2h for a zone 2 ride, but the average came out at 185 watts, 7.5% lower than target. I sometimes increase the wattage just to reach my desired target (eg setting this to 225 to ensure 200 watt, 325watt for 300 etc)

I’m using dual sides power pedals to gauge the perceived effort rather than the turbo trainer itself, I want turbo power to relate to road effort hence using the pedals as power input.

Now the turbo, when set to a power desired wattage will stick to that wattage almost always (within 2%)

but the power pedals are always under, is this within normal tolerances in TD?

I am guessing the when using only the turbo (without pedals) its smoothing the data, whereas the pedals being closer to the source of input are prone to increased variation?

Finally, this may have been fixed in the recent update, but I completed a VO2 max/Lactate test at a facility and used TrainerDay to set my wattage zones, but with every 25 watt increase, the power would decrease significally (becoming easier) before ramping up to the desired effort (The effort needed when going from 275 to 300 watts then to 325 watts would dip, before increasing see image)

Hi and thanks, sorry so slow. Yes this power drop should be fixed in the latest version.

I am not sure about Directo Elite V3 but they might do internally what Wahoo does which is smooth it based on the target, this makes it look extra smooth and accurate. We don’t do anything different for trainer power or pedal power. Most pedals are more noisy. I do notice with my spindle dual sided and the power is very smooth (especially when I try to pedal smooth) but my single sided assioma or ralley’s are super noisy.

Are you using power match? Do you have this turned on in settings? If not that will fix this average being off. Maybe not perfectly but it should be within about 1% of the target.

Hi Alex,

Yes, everything is perfect now again, for some reason the 2 devices I use for training had power match and smoothing switched off! #

Thanks!
