Target HR zone not updating with HR workout

Hi there,

Today I’ve created a new plan with 3 workout. All are planned to be done indoors on a smarttrainer.
2 HR workout (endurance) and 1 indoor training (HITT).

While trying to do 1 of the HR workouts today I don’t seem to manage to have the Target HR zones be updated according to the workout. It’s always on 80, the start value which seems quite low in itself.

Graph also doesn’t show correctly in some cases, see images.

While browsing the calendar via the webapp it clearly shows it’s a HR workout, but on mobile/tablet it shows as a regular power workout. Even after switching to HR+ mode the target BPM sticks at 80.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi yes HR workouts are only for garmin and trainingpeaks (outside mostly). Our app har HR+ but that is something different and for your reference doing high intensity workouts via HR does not work in generally work. HR reacts too slowly and they are anaerobic so without oxygen (hr)

HR+ is something you can design yourself and this is for smart trainers and long steady state efforts. We used to have HR mode in our app but hardly anyone used it and it caused other users confusion.

Why not use power?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the swift response. So indeed I know high intensity workouts via HR isn’t the best option. That’s why I was planning to use the regular power for that during that 1 workout / week

But for the other 2 regular endurance/tempo trainings, I’d rather use heart rate. I’m thinking, the body can be more tired or well-rested, and heart rate during training will be the best indicator for this.

I’d rather use a workout with some slight variability in heart rate instead of doing the exact same thing all the time. That’s the reason why I picked the heart rate workout in the plan builder.
But yes, if it’s not possible to get heart rate training anymore on a regular indoor smart trainer, then it is what it is.

Then I’ll create the base endurance workouts myself. But to be honest, this loses a bit of the purpose of the plan builder and the subscription for me as a ‘general fitness’ biker without a real goal in mind. But that’s probably one of the lower target groups for the app!

Oh yes, this is perfect. This is our HR+ mode. Currently you have to design your own workouts

You can create a workout like this.

Or just open our app click on quick start and press HR+ and up arrow to get to your desired target BPM

It adjusts very slowly so in general you likely don’t even need a warmup.

if you want custom warmup or cool down or rapid power changes it’s best to use ERG mode like this to make the rapid or specific ramp rate changes.

Perfect, thanks for the extensive information! Will plan my endurance trainings this way in the future!!
