I tried searching for this so apols if this has been asked before.
I’m wondering if this is expected behaviour?
So, I’ve created a plan and put it in my calendar.
In the app, when I go to Today I see today’s workout (makes sense), but I don’t see any other options available (say in case I want to do a different suggested workout to the plan). The refresh option doesn’t do anything, neither does changing the time from the drop-down or selecting the carousel dots.
Should I be able to view and choose alternatives workouts here? It would be a great option to have - especially as there’s times when I want to do a workout of different duration/intensity etc. Instead I have to go to the workout library and fine one there, but one of the best features of the app is the Today suggestions.
Hi, good question / idea. For now instead of going on TODAY tab go to the workout tab and you will see your other workouts there from your plan. We are not fully optimized for this idea yet but I like the thinking, meaning training more by feel.
Yes, I’m often needing to adjust sessions on the fly (work, motivation etc.) so just an option to see what would otherwise be there in Today’s suggestions as well as the plan’s session for the day would be great for easily adding some flexibility into the plan. Admittedly it goes against the notion of having a plan, but a training approach nonetheless!
No I am a strong believer that the individual should fine tune the plan on the fly and it is still a plan. Today is there for flexibility but it’s more like I feel like something different. We are actually working to change how TODAY works so it would have “Load More” instead of refresh, in this case you still would have the original planned workout but just have more choices.
Are you saying you would like it to find something similar from our database or are you saying you just want to see other workouts from your plan? Because other workouts from your plan are available now on workouts tab. I would think if it gave other workouts similar to your planned one but randomly different?
Or maybe TODAY just needs to be smarter. If you can give any examples or more specifics of what you are thinking it would help. One thing that is clear is people think very differently regarding training and plans.
I think improvements to TODAY in general might be a separate topic, and in all honesty I’m still pretty new to TD so I’m not sure what ideas I can offer there yet.
When combining TODAY with a plan though, some similar alternatives would be amazing, especially if you could change the duration but still keep the same kind of workout (even if just the same theme - threshold, tempo etc.).
As a starting point, a more simple enhancement though would be to offer the standard TODAY suggestions as well as the planned session. So the primary offering is the session from the plan, but then also being able to view other suggestions (as you can on days without a scheduled workout) so there is some choice if I’m not feeling the planned workout. Does that make sense?
Edit - I’ve spotted that TODAY is actually different in the web app, and does show suggestions on the day I have a scheduled workout, but not the scheduled workout. Suggest there should be some consistency across accessing TODAY via the app and the web app.
I am a little confused. We give you 4 choices now on TODAY tab (3 alternatives to your planned activity) they are provided based on some intelligent randomness. It sounds like that is what you are asking for. But yes if you have a threshold scheduled for today with say 8 minutes of total time at threshold we could look for similar workouts 6-10 minutes @ threshold but constrained by your time limit suggested.
If you look at non-Coach jack workouts when you click on the workout at the bottom we have similar workouts. Adding this to CJ workouts would seem to solve this as well.
Not on the day I have a workout in my calendar, in the app.
As per my original post, this is what I see in TODAY when I have a Workout in my calendar. And when I select any of the options (see image - highlighted in red), nothing changes - only the calendar workout is displayed so I can’t view or choose any alternative. This only happens on days when have a workout in my calendar, on other days I can access alternatives.
Oh I did not understand what you meant. Swiping to the side shows the other 3 workouts and these are filtered by time. Are you saying swiping does not work? We should probably make those dots clickable as well.
Hi - I was going to post a similar point but this thread seems to be about the same point so better to resurrect this one! Oh, and happy new year!
I’d really like to be able to drop an activity on to the calendar on my laptop from the comfort of my sofa and (on the given day) open the app on my phone and the session I planned for the day be there under the “today” tab ready for me. The “today” tab has a little calendar icon so I kind of thought that would be what would happened. Was I wrong or am I doing it wrong?!?!
Example today - I had dropped a plan over the next few weeks but decided I actually need to do an FTP ramp test so I scheduled it in for today on the calendar. But it’s not there on the app when I open it. It’s not a biggie to go find it in my favourites, but if that’s not how it’s meant to work, what’s the point of being able to put future sessions into your calendar? If ‘today’ is not what you’d scheduled for today - should it not just be called ‘suggested workouts’ or ‘workout archive’ or ‘workout generator’? The calendar icon intuitively makes you think it’ll reflect what’s on your calendar.
Apologies if I’m doing it wrong and it actually works like I thought it should and I’m just being dumb!
It should work like you suggest. Re-opening our app or pressing refresh at the bottom should make this work. Also you can go to workouts/plan to see the list of your calendar workouts with an additional refresh button there.
Hi Alex - sorry, no amount of refreshing makes it (eg the ramp test I’ve got planned today) appear. I can just choose a length of workout from the dropdown and get 4 suggested workouts per time period. For me anyway there simply does not seem to be a way to find the activity I put on my calendar for today, on the ‘today’ tab.
edit - unless this is a time zone thing and what I’m seeing as today is not today in the time zone TD works in…
I can go to workouts and see my current plan, but say in this case where I’ve subbed out an exercise from the plan for a ramp test that’s not there (well it is if I go to the favs tab as I’ve saved it). Also, If I change the order of the plan in the calendar to say have a long workout today because I have the time and put the shorter one later in the week - the order in the plan does not reflect this. Again, this is a small thing but it would add to the user experience.
If you make the calendar active instead of the plan, it will work as you expect. You can follow a plan directly which allows just doing one workout after the next, or you can use calendar which has specific days.
We could, I am not sure there is as much value. Let me explain. Workouts > 120 minutes are hard core endurance workouts. Doubtful you will be doing higher intensity intervals after 120 minutes and even if there are, there are solutions. So we have three features to allow you to have long workouts
Merge workouts. Start with Today, ride 120 minute workout to the cool down minutes or so then go back to today and click ride now. Now it just creates a ~250 minute workout as it merges the two together. When it merges the next workout, you can always just press skip on the warmup.
You can just turn on auto-extend in our settings and the workout will go forever. Switch to slope mode and pedal at the intensity you desire or press + - in erg mode
You can unlock the + feature and create some additional endurance intervals that you insert into the end of the current interval. It will remember this so you don’t have to do it again. You can even lock it so 1 click just extends your workout a specific length.
If those don’t work for you, I would love to better understand. If there is a good reason to add longer workouts I am not totally opposed to it.
Yeah I understand all of that in the app, but it was more for outdoor workouts where I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do on the day and deviated from the plan. Something that I could send to my Wahoo for Planned Workouts that would see my Strava history and recommend a workout based on that, if that makes sense?
That’s actually what our Today feature does with the other workouts that are not part of the plan (there are 3 or 4 workouts there). But it’s more just variety at about the right intensity level not necessarily a logical progression as a part of your plan, but I still feel most cases this is a reasonable suggestion for a workout.
