Wild power fluctuations all of a sudden in erg mode? Kickr V5

Sounds good. After an IOS update, and deleting and reinstalling TD, last night’s ride encountered a completely different issue. My HRM was connected to the APP, but it did not register. I know if was connected as it showed connected and also displayed on my Wahoo head unit (in passive mode). Same way I’ve always done it, so not sure what was going on this time. The workout was completed on the Jet Black Victory and I did still have the slight power drop outs.

Just weird how I’ve never had a heart rate display issue before until this time after all the updates, reinstalls, restarts, etc.

New research paper dropped ‘Motivated Technology and Fitness Enthusiast Sacrifices Three Devices to the Chaos Gods of ERG Mode and Discovers the Forbidden Ritual of the Full-Stack Reboot with key findings: When the white line starts vibing like a broken seismograph and your Apple Watch starts gaslighting the red line, the only peer-reviewed solution is still “have you tried turning the entire lab off and on again?”’

Honestly I doubt the story is over. One fact, my volume is increasing.

Friday HR+ base case to repro scenario WiFi + Streaming. 7min mark I stop, disable WiFi + Streaming, and restart. HR reading inaccurate for first +3min Power starts accurate before transitioning to chaos mode.

Friday part 2, reboot all the things. iPad, iPhone, and Kicker Bike. Looks great. At 38min mark I decided to up HR target to 158, behaved as expected.

Saturday, let’s try this again! Perfection, went off without a hitch. HR bump at 22min, hydration before first intervals. Full WiFi + Streaming, and workout session.

One of the benefits of restoring old MacPro’s was rediscovering LightBlue. LightBlue is a BLE development tool. Should ERG power or HR chaos repro in the future I’ll attempt to collect logs.

Completed a ride last night and everything worked perfectly. Steady state ride in ERG mode, no power fluctuations except for +/- 1 watt which I think is within limits.

@Alex Whatever you guys did yesterday seems to have solved the issue as best as I can tell. Will do another workout today and I expect no issues.

We did not change anything, it must have been something on your side. I think what is happening is people have some interference in their house and the way we are dealing with the drop outs is wrong. This is what we have improved but it is not launched yet.

Interesting. @aegisofpaean appears to have had a successful go of it too according to his post above. This is strange because I didn’t change anything. We’ll see how things go later today then.

Chaos returns today. Not surprised. HR had some drift but generally matches Apple Watch with deviations within what I’d expect.

Did not manage to capture BLE event logs since I did not prepare iPad ahead of time, too much anticipation of watching the Hungarian F1 during the session. Tomorrow I’ll try again.

@Alex if you want we can do TestFlight with the improved drop handling and iterate. Also I suspect we might be relatively local, looking at TrainerDay business address. I’m in Bothell, WA. I’m saying I’m open to helping however you like.

Hi everyone! I’ve uploaded a new version of the app to TestFlight with fixes for ERG control. These changes may also have resolved other issues (if there were any, of course) related to reconnecting the device after the connection is lost during a workout.

If this change works for others, I’ll have to sign up again and give it a shot, I miss a lot of the rides!

Cool, I am from Ellensburg but currently living in Poland. Let’s wait and see the next release. I will send you an invite to test flight as the first step.

Plan to ride 6-7pm PST today. Assuming I get the TestFlight build I’ll provide feedback hopefully with BLE telemetry.

I sent you invite but apple might need to approve first.
