Base Building in the Winter

Just to clarify, Veloreality, does control my Tacx Vortex Smart trainer .( Up to 7% grades. ) So, after a week of doing HIIT workouts, I’ll spend 1 day doing a free ride on VeloReality.

It’s seems many people look at winter as a time to increase their FTP (let’s say performance). If you ride consistently all year I would argue (as would many others) it’s best to treat winter as a time to give your body a chance to recover and focusing on holding on to most of the fitness you had from last year. That means training mostly easy, might be long or short durations but indoor is generally better for shorter… Also good time for cross training. This assumes you treat spring as a big build period where you start riding a lot more and a lot harder outside (being careful when done at the same time). If you are not going to have a big build period a shorter duration high intensity inside makes more sense.
