Hi,
Have you planned to make a Linux version of the Desktop application?
Regards.
The technology we are using should work fine. If you are willing to be my beta tester I am willing to try it
Probably just ubuntu… meaning ble libraries might be different on different flavors of linux but while I love and use it (mostly server side, rasberry pi… I do have an Omarchy laptop…) but I don’t know that much about Linux desktop apps and compatibility and if it causes ongoing issues for a small number of users I might kill it… but I am willing to try if you are….
Will it be Ubuntu specifically, or any Debian based Linux? I’d be interested. I don’t have a touch screen device though, so I’d be using a laptop.
I would guess any Debian based would work. I would test ubuntu myself but once it is working I assume debian would be the same. Yes laptop is good, no touch screen needed. Two users…. off to a good start
Let me try to do a build soon, maybe even tomorrow.
If anyone really wants to be a guinee pig, I have not tested this at all. Need to find my ubutunu mac mini and get it running. My tester will test it this weekend… So this is completely untested. Just built it and deployed. You don’t need to test it. Just throwing it over the fence ![]()
I’ll give it a try this weekend. Now if we can just get a tablet to run Ubuntu Touch my pain cave would be complete. ![]()
Having an issue with BLE. May be user error, it’s not finding any devices. I’ve done both, having it connected to the phone (which I usually use) and turning the phone and app and all connects to it off. I’ve tried both the internal BLE on the laptop and a dongle. No luck either way. I’ve tried connecting it to the laptop through the BLE connection and turning that off and just pairing through the app.
Ok we will start testing, thanks for checking… So much for linux and mac being the same in this case.
I’ll See if there’s a problem on my end later on when I have time. Maybe there’s an issue with permissions or something in my OS. Linux Mint.
If it turns into a headache, I’m fine with the IOS app. If things slow down for you at some point it would be nice to revisit it.
Nothing worked. Hoping it’s something with BLE on your end and can be resolved easily.
Thanks both for the support and the tests. Unfortunately mi device doesn’t support BLE (only ANT+) and I won’t be able to test it until I get a new one. My question was thinking in the future.
Currently I have to use an old mobile app version to get my device working. In any case, I think Ubuntu/Debian would fit for Linux users.
So we have Ant+ in mac/win now. I know one user that still has old, old version of our android app that supported Ant+, apk could be found. I could ask him version he uses if you care but not sure you could even login with it now. His might work since he did not logout. Ant+ linux… oh other interesting problem
I am planning on getting my ubuntu machine connected and tested in the next few days.
I’m using android version v5.1.0 in an old mobile, installed via APKPure. I don’t touch it while it works
.
Ok old mac mini ubuntu found and running TD app. Confirmed, no BLE. Should now be able to fix and see what Ant+ looks like as well.
Ok what do you see below? Success!!!
The app itself should have auto updates but here just in case

I am still not committing to linux.
This was harder than I thought it should be. In my 14 year old mac mini.. the old bluetooth adapter did not work so I had to use an external one. As long as there are not too many linux specific bugs after this initial getting it working phase then we will have a linux version. I really like linux. I am just so committed to mac myself can’t seem to fully switch, maybe some day.
I should say I have not looked at Ant+ yet… thats for another day.
Sweet! I’ll give it a go tomorrow. Not much time on Mondays. BLE works fine for my purposes, I don’t even have an ANT+ dongle but could get one if needed. In the future I may convert an older PC to use in the cave.
Great! thanks for the efforts, I appreciate it ![]()
Let me know if Ant+ works. Probably not but if you tell me it does not I will see if I can fix it faster… Otherwise it might take me a bit of time to test it ![]()
I’m an idiot. I can not get this to work. I have a very limited knowledge of command line and know only basics. I’ve researched the heck out of this and none of the solutions on the forums etc work. I’ve tried to purge the files and reinstall with no luck. I was once able to get the desktop app to come up, now I can not even get that to work. I don’t know what else to do except reformat another older laptop and see if the would work, but I’m sure that is overkill. Reached the end of my knowledge base and rope on this one. ![]()
