Creating Workouts that simulate hills

I am sure there is an answer to this on the forums and I have read through them but have not been able to find an answer. I am wondering if it is possible so create a workout that simulates hill riding.

For example. 3 minutes at 3% grade into 1 minute at 5% grade into 2 minutes at 0% grade.

I understand that I can create slope in the workout creator. I did this, but my problem was that when it shifted the gradients/slopes it was so. abrupt that it basically locked up the trainer. I am using a Wahoo Kickr Core. I am using the TrainerDay App. Once thing I did that may have caused it is I have assimo pedals and I had those set as the power/cadence.

Any help, tips, advice is much appreciated.

Yes, the only problem is without the visual stimulation of hills it’s not exactly the same but you can put an FTP% as a visual reference so you know what you are trying to target. FTP% does not do anything except show visual target numbers

Alex, thank you. I am fine not have a ftp other than a number, but I should feel it build resistance so I can either shift gears or get out of the saddle to overcome the new “hill”. Thoughts on why it was so abrupt that it basically locked the trainer?

Oh sorry, I just read the first part of your message. If you are in a big gear, 1% change can be a lot. You can set it in settings to like a .2% increase. But I can say we just launched a big ble update a couple days ago and I see some slope problems and it’s possible this is related. We have a new version that should be coming tomorrow or for sure the next day that might be the solution.

Alex, any update on this? I have used Velocity App before and their ability to change slope and the gradual change really mimics how hills feel and I am trying to get as close to that as possible with your App. I love the ability to import workouts or create workouts and want to try and mimic hills as where I live outdoor riding is a short season with the weather.

It should be working now. The simple solution is just to open up the quick start, press slope, and press the up/down buttons at the bottom and see if they change how hard it is. One thing to do is make sure that the trainer is not connected directly to your Android or iOS settings, it’s connected in our app, not in the core phone settings. If you send screenshots, if you have issues, sometimes that can help. For example, the connections tab and the main workout screen.
