Fatigue resistance workout

Thanks Alex.

I was thinking about life in general and concluded I haven’t been thriving. It was becoming difficult for me to stay weight stable. Food noise was becoming more of a problem also.

I gave thought to when was I thriving? It was just a couple years ago. I wanted to feel better again. Low carb to keto was my lifestyle when I was happiest.

I don’t recall trashing low carb on here before, but I could be misremembering.

Loss of fitness is certainly possible, but the performance loss while adapting is real. The Wednesday before the diet change I did 150 W for 30 straight minutes with avg 145 BPM and RPE 5/10. That is pretty good by my standards.

I was pretty sure you were anti-low carb in a discussion but I could be confused also. Yes a bit of fitness and good weight I feel good as well. I wish I only had 10lbs to go… I need more like 10kg still. My fitness was increasing quickly but this week HRV is low, RHR is high, sleeping bad, working a lot… I feel borderline sick so I have avoided experience…. taking to my AI Coach Claude Fable’s advice… (Fable is seriously smart).

We had a normal outdoor ride today and the data looks basically the same as prior comparison rides on a mixed diet. Maybe indoors is an outlier, but for the “event” I’m training for (quality outdoor rides) it looks fine.

Hi Dave,

Good to hear the transition is going well.

The difference might just be an indoor effect. Even with a fan, cooling may be worse than outdoors. So you get more heat and sweat. That could raise HR at the same power. Did you consider that?

It is hard to say what the root cause is. I think your suggestion could be correct. It has been very humid in my basement. Regardless, I will keep plugging away.

It looks indoor training is back to normal now with September 7 as the first day at low carb:

I’m down 10 lbs since that time and almost an 1" at the belly button. Some of that is inflated due to some over indulgence on vacation the week prior to the change. I’m not fat either. 157.4 lbs on a 5’10" frame is very lean for middle aged men in the USA and I’m at my high school graduation weight.

Low carb / keto style diets are not popular in cycling circles, but is so easy. I eat foods I like, I stay full, and lose weight. This is so much easier than what I was doing earlier in the year with a more mixed macronutrient diet. As mentioned earlier I did this previously for ~ 4 years. I should have never left.

I’m recreational with volume of about 4 - 4.5 hrs a week. Maybe it would be different at high volume. I’m also not particularly performance focused, I’m not competitively racing.
