HR-Controlled Workouts - They're GREAT!

I finally tried the HR+ setting!! I set my HR @ 130 and it kept me within a few beats. Since I do Orangetheory workouts, I use indoor cycling for the “lower intensity” workouts. Can’t wait to use this feature more in the future!!

Hi @Alex,

I did a new HR-based ride today using PowerMatch.

My HR target was set at 120 bpm, but despite keeping the target constant, my HR gradually crept up up to 130–133 bpm.

Here’s the ride:

Near the end of the ride, I lowered the HR target to 115 bpm, which explains the drop you’ll see in the final section.

This was intended to be a steady, easy HR ride, so I’m trying to understand whether this behavior is expected with PowerMatch + HR mode, or if there’s something in the setup or control logic that could explain the drift.

Powermatch likely does not work correctly with hr+ we need to test and implement this. You could dual record as one option for now.

Thanks @Alex, that makes sense

I’ll dual-record for now . Happy to help test once HR+ with PowerMatch is being worked on.

Thanks again for the transparency.

@Alex Revisiting this, I think I would like to see about adjusting the limiters. The bottom of HR control is 40% while the upper is 82%. Lately I have been all over the place, one day I can seem to hold 100 watts at 125 bpm no problem and have to raise the FTP in order to achieve enough resistance, another day I have to lower it back down just so the resistance will drop enough so my HR doesn’t get too high. It seems I never know which way it’s going to go until I start pedaling. Not a huge inconvenience, but it takes 2-3 adjustments on the fly to get it right for me.

If you can just apply it to my account that would be fine. Say 20% lower limiter?

There’s no easy way to do that now, but I understand the problem.

And probably now that this is feeling more stable, I probably don’t need that 40% limiter. I probably can just change it generically to 20% and it’s fine. We’re currently working on some other stuff, but this is a fairly easy change, or should be, hopefully. Knock on wood. We should be able to do it in a reasonable amount of time.

Ok, did not take too long. I don’t imagine any issues with this. See below, next version should be coming this week with this fix. Starts at 30% now and will drop to 20% if target is low enough.

Okay. New version is out with this 20% fix now that you don’t need it anymore. It’s still a good idea anyway. I think more and more doctors will start recommending this to their patients. I see more and more coming. And many of them are this 20% could benefit.
