Ok, I don’t get this. In fact, I looked at past workout I did only using my watch controlling the workout and I did not get this meetrics either. Maybe it’s something related to your Garmin Vector, I use 4iiii power meter. But using ERG mode, I’m guessing the “Training execution score” should be close to 100%, you have no choice to follow ERG unless you fail pedealing.
I have a question: “Do the workouts from Coach Jack’s plan on VO2MAX need to be done in the saddle, or do I need to work in the rack?”. I really like to work in the rack, but I want to do it the way the trainer wants and requires, not the way I want)))).
If your goal is outdoor riding I think you’d want to ride these intervals the way you would outside. I would do them in the saddle.
Dave
Yes, while it’s good to do some standing climb practice (maybe more sprinting then vo2max) the primary goal of coach jack and training in general is to focus on your aerobic conditioning and most of that is done while seated. Now this time of year when someone is more focused on peaking for outdoor racing then including more standing intervals is not a bad idea but again I think for most cycling seated training is best. Now second to that is I think for many of us top consistency is a big problem and doing what is fun can increase consistency and for sure performance. If this is your case, I am all for doing what is more fun, I think the rather small benefits of seated vs standing don’t compare in the slightest to more consistency.
Thank you for the valuable explanation, Alex!!! It would be good to put such details in the description of the workouts, I think it would be very useful for those starting their journey in cycling training. If it’s too late to do it, it might be a good idea to create a separate topic to describe and reveal all the subtleties and nuances of doing different types of workouts. There is a general description, but there are not enough subtleties about the cadence, standing and sitting positions. Thank you again for your detailed answer!!!
Yes, I need to work on improving our workout descriptions. Before next winter we will have many improvements, I will see what I can do with descriptions.
That’s great news from you Alex!!! It will be great to have additional instruction to improve pedalling technique and stuff. I took a year subscription to your app and honestly I’m happy with what I got. Of course I would like a lot more for perfect use, but what you have come up with is already good. At the moment I’m not happy with the distance count on my Garmin Fenix 7X Pro watch, which is connected to a Wahoo Kikr V6 exercise bike in Free Ride mode. Your app counts the distance travelled per workout more closely to reality in relation to power and cadence. It is strange that the app and the watch use the same trainer, but the values are different and have to be changed manually in Garmin Connect. If the difference was up to a kilometre, you could put up with it, but a difference of 10-15 km in one hour of training is not pleasing and you have to change it.
Alex, do you have any recommendations? Is it possible to influence the settings in the Garmin watch to make the distance travelled values close to the values from your app?
Try changing gears in your trainer. Trainers report speed and distance based on the speed of the flywheel which makes zero sense, especially in ERG mode which you can make the flywheel spin slower and faster based on the gear with the same power output. We don’t use the speed coming from the trainer. We use power and watts per kg which can be very accurate, also you can fine tune it with our CD value. Meaning guys on MTB’s are going slower for the same watts than guys on TT bikes. So you got lucky that your outdoor speeds match your indoor speeds more closely. I should have used CdA instead of CD but it’s not real anyway since indoor there is no “aeroness” indoors.
See here where you can adjust our speed/distance if you want (sounds like it is good now)
If Garmin is too fast switch to smaller gear ratio (bigger ring in back…) and opposite if too slow. Thanks for being a yearly subscriber. Yes we try to provide a very high value service.
