Hi Alex. Not to throw a wrench in the issue but today I did a 2 Hour indoor ride in slope mode on TD Version 4.1.1 Also was using the real time url on my computer. Approx 1hr 35 minutes into ride timer started slowing as stated in these threads. In the end I actually rode 2 hours 14 minutes. I went to try changing power smoothing to greater than 3 seconds but option was gone. (Since last time I looked) Also, phone did run into low power mode. (Iphone 11). I attributed the slow down to this. Next ride phone will be fully charged. I will let you know how it goes. I may be the odd one here but I am incorporating longer rides this winter for base. The timer issue really puts a damper on otherwise a great app.
Hi Hanna. Please remember to update the app to version 4.1.6 or higher before your next ride. Hopefully we have fixed any problems with the app freezing.
Thank for feedback Hanna, yes we have not tested long workouts with low battery yet but if you had updated to 4.1.6 before your workout then low battery was likely the problem.
Hi Alex. My app was at 4.1.6 today This is how it went.
I am also running IOS 17.0.3.
Planned 3 hr zone 2 ride. Battery at 97%. No other apps running in background.
1 hr 53 min into ride timer stalled. I rode it up to 2 hrs to get my minimum goal in.
Actual ride time was 2 hours 18 minutes. Battery at end of ride was 51%
After saving ride i immediately restarted another workout to test timer. It worked with no issues. During this ride I did for my own experience tested turning off apple phone while still logged into ride. Then restarted phone. TD restarted at point of previous shutdown. No lost data and timer was functioning. So, I guess next time timer stalls I will just shut down phone and restart.
Oh no, what phone do you have? Do you generally have a lot of apps installed? We have tested with many long workouts (3 hrsā¦) now and it works second accurate for us on our phones. But we also donāt do 2 hr + rides on the trainer So we just walk around with HR monitor or inject 2 hours of test data for example. So yours is a real test from a real cyclist which could have an effect.
Hi Alex. I have a Iphone 11. IOS Operating System 17.0.3.
We are going down the same path we went about a year ago.
I did review my history and I have done several 3 hour plus rides a few 4 hour rides and one 5 hour ride . The 5 hour ride was dec 2022. No problems with timer. Same phone. Different operating systems.
I have no other apps running on the phone (Zero). I have even turned off updates during workout.
Today (Sat 14,) I rode 3 hour ride. Phone was plugged into charger entire ride.
At 1 hr53 minutes (same as day before - same workout) App timer froze. I shut phone down and restarted and all was good (Timer worked and I completed 3 Hour ride)
2 thoughts -
- In the past I would change the power smoothing to 6 seconds. That option seems to be gone. Less data recording at 6 seconds
- I am riding the entire time - That is - cadence, heart rate and power numbers are being recorded the entire ride. (I donāt generally take a break). I would think that this inherently creates more bytes (bits?) of computer data than just recording heart rate and 0 power 0 cadences numbers during your tests. Just a thought.
Also, it may just be coincidence, my problems started with updating to IOS 17.0.3 from 16. something (donāt remember).
If there is something, you want me to do specifically to test or help solve this issue. I am willing to help. Also, from my looking around the internet, long indoor trainer rides are more common than one would think. Most people only want to show high power numbers and thus short interval workouts get all the social attention.
Just had this issue back with version 4.10.5 on my last 3 workouts. It took about 2h15 to do 2h on the app and when I was looking the timer it was stuck and released randomly.
Oh, no, one reported this in a long time and now you are the 3rd person yesterday that said something. Hopefully we can fix it quickly this time. Thanks for reporting it.
Are you iOS or Android? It seems this is only iOS and 2 hour+ workouts. We canāt duplicate it on a very old Android device even after 3 hours.
Can you record a video while you are working out and this is happening? We are testing this now. We could not duplicate on Android and now trying iOS. Even a screenshot or a link to your completed activity would help.
Nevermind. We can easily duplicate this (well after 1 hour 40 minutes or soā¦) So this should be easy to fix since we can replicate it.
Awesome, yes it was on IOS and last workout I did I monitored the issue and it also started around that time.
I did want to report a potential bug I experienced today, and I have seen this a few times in the past as well.
I am running TrainerDay (Version 4.10.5) off my iPad (iPadOS 17.6.1), with no other apps open. I have a very high speed internet connection where my wifi speeds I am receiving on the iPad are usually well over 200 MB/sec. My iPad is plugged in, so full power mode during the full duration of my workout.
What I have seen during interval workouts is that the timer for the intervals as well as the ācount-up total time timerā slow down or almost stop for seconds at a time. Today it was very bad so I checked it with the stopwatch on my sports watch. For a full 60 seconds on my stopwatch, only 25 seconds elapsed on the timers on TrainerDay. You can imagine how disheartening this is when you are doing a hard interval workout and the interval is seemingly randomly doubled in length.
I have seen this before, but have not been able to figure out what could be causing it. Today I did a full workout (Sub Threshold Climbing) then hit the back arrow in the upper left corner and started a second workout (Gazump 120). I chose to merge the workouts and proceeded on. Thatās when I noticed it happening so noticeably. After confirming with my stopwatch the problem, I stopped the workout and saved the file.
Maybe it only happens when workouts get merged but I thought I should report it either way.
Yes everyone we have a fix for this. We are just doing final testing and should have it release in the next day or so.
We had this issue a year ago but we have not heard anything again until just recently. It seems for most people it affects them > 90 minutes. Not sure if that is your case. As I said I believe we have this fixed and are testing it right now. Internet is not the issue as our app does not need the internet while running. Occasional ipads or phones can slow down and restart can resolve this but in this case we did a major upgrade and it introduced a less performance technology for showing the graphs. Hopefully you have only seen it in the last 2-4 weeks because before that no one had a problem.
Hello, first of all, great app, I really like TD, thank you for all your efforts! Unfortunately the timing bug just started occuring on my device. Old Android Phone (Moto G6 plus, Android version 9, Trainer Day 5.1.8). TD has been working flawlessly on this phone for more than 3 months. Since yesterday I get the timing bug (i.e. TD time runs slower than actual time) starting at about 30min into the workout. After a 1h freeride workout the time difference is 1h vs 45min in TD. Battery in the phone is charged, TD is actually the only app running on the phone (in foreground). Black holes in the vicinity of the phone can be excluded :-). Is there any known workaround? Again, great app!
Fixed tomorrow
Just wanted to get back to you. Tested it again today with the new version 5.1.9. Everything works perfectly! Thank you so much!
Hello again! Unfortunately I have exprienced the slow down bug again. After updating to the new TD version 5.1.9 everything worked great for exactly 5 days, but today I experienced the bug again within a 1 hour workout. Slowdown 1h is counted as approximately 45 min in TD. Nothing was changed on the phone since the last update to 5.1.9. Is this bug somehow related to cache data of the app?
Did you turn on speed and distance at the bottom? Those must be off for now.
