Hello everyone, I thought I wouldn’t do any more competitions for this year, but on September 28th my team decided to go compete in the last race of 2025. Now I wanted some advice on what training to do in such a short time that could benefit me for that day. I was thinking of doing 3 weeks of loading starting this Sunday so I can have the week before the race in unloading. What do you advise???
What kind of race?
46km mountain bike granfondo with over 1600m of elevation gain
can anyone help me?
Sorry, I don’t personally have expertise for this situation, but how close does the link below match what you’re going through?
Dave
Specificity to the event is always good advice, including building up your weekly long rides as much as you can…
Usually anaerobic is the thing you can gain the most in a short period of time so if you are not currently at a peak period, meaning you have not been going super hard than go hard, HIIT, VO2max… Or this could be a CJ peak block starting at level 5-10 in most cases. Big climbs would be my first choice.

Hi Trx,
Sorry for the late response. I have been on holiday and the internet connection was bad.
That is short notice for such a hard race. Sounds like fun. 1600hm in 46 km is substantial, and on the mtb that often means steep climbs.
Since the timing is short, I would focus on one interval session zone 5/6 and one interval session of threshold blocks. Depending on the number of training days I would do one more session of long slow hours and one session of race simulation. Don’t wear yourself out on that last block.
Remember that the higher the training load, the more time you need to spend on your recovery. Getting better is nice, but being fit to race is more important.
If you want more detailed advice, I need more info on your training time, experience, and the course of the race.
Let me know how your race was.
Have fun, Coach Robert
